Happy National Day of Sweden !

The National Day of Sweden (Sveriges nationaldag) is a national holiday observed in Sweden on June 6 every year. The day was made into a national day by Riksdagen, the Swedish parliament, in 1983. AGM Reminder - Monday 22 April 2013

Smörgåstårta (in Swedish) ("sandwich cake") is a Scandinavian cuisine dish that is popular in Sweden. The smörgåstårta is normally made up of several layers of white or light rye bread with creamy fillings in between.

The sitting committee is suggesting some major changes in how we run and operate the association.  The association is embarking on its 49th year running. What started out as a business association with the aim to promote Sweden and Swedish businesses is now a social hub and support network for Swedes, Kiwis and other nationalities living in New Zealand having Sweden as their common interest. Throughout its life the association has had some amazing guests and events. We have even hosted the King and Queen of Sweden for a good old Kiwi BBQ! 

Please come along and let us hear what you think about the changes we suggest and also find out what we have been up to during the year. This is your chance to meet the committee and bring any ideas you may have forward.

The Sweden-New Zealand Association will be there and show how to play kubb + we will also have a "Swedish Waffles" stall. If you are able to come and help in the Waffle Stall - please let Tinni know tinni@sweden.org.nz. The majority of the committee will be there having their own stalls, so we can really do with some extra waffle makers :-)

Monica and The Explosion - in Wellington 21 Feb

Monica and The Explosion is Monica Welander, an acoustic punk rock artist from Kalmar, Sweden.
Since the release of her debut album in 2007 she has been touring all around the world, solo or with a band, and she has aroused great interest and repect for her dynamic live performances and her songs wherever she has been.
The sound is best described as ”jukebox punk” - acoustic rock n'roll with attitude.
As part of the New Zealand tour 2013 she is performing in Wellington:
